Gamepad vs. Mouse
Jarod | February 22, 2009I’ve been playing Resistance 2 on my PS3 and I like it. It looks good (a little dark sometimes), is well paced, and has awesome fights with giant bosses. It does not have auto-aim, but can be controlled rather well with a gamepad. Of course, the enemies are pretty dumb and stand around most of the time, waiting for you to shoot them. Some use shields, some run at you, but usually they only become dangerous in large numbers.
I am downloading the Empire: Total War demo as I write this, off of Steam. And the F.E.A.R. 2 demo. Jumpgate Evolution was announced for June (finally!) and I have yet to beat Fallout 3. But: the console has its advantages. Sitting on the couch in front of the telly, I mean, it’s just a natural thing. Yet games on the PC look better, can be customized, have quick save (oh yeah, baby), and can be controlled with a precise controller: a mouse. I think it will come down to the games. With all the trouble I had with GTA IV, that’s a typical console game. Shooters? PC. RPG? Depends. Action-RPG? Console. Strategy? PC. And so on.
Apart from games, a new friend of mine and I have decided we have to get out more. Free up more time, worry less about unimportant issues and stop pretending work was the only important thing in life. While I won’t be able to work less this year – and I don’t really want to for that matter – I might have to change my schedule, start earlier, finish earlier. That has never worked in the past, though. Well come spring and summer, I will have more reasons to go out there with my camera. These grey weekends, all I ever want to do is sleep. Only thing I’ll have to do is, get my friends off the night shift train, too – and that’s not going to be easy, as we’re all equally busy.
Well, I’ve decided to have one wonderful worry-free week, doing what I want to do, frak the rest. Not had that in a while, and I know who triggered that. Good signs, all over the place.
