There’s a reason

Jarod | December 23, 2008

There’s a reason why I bought that automatic one-click coffee maker. I just didn’t remember yesterday, when I almost blew up my kitchen trying to make espresso with my old-school high-powered steam machine.

There’s a reason why you don’t go shopping one day before Christmas. I just forgot when I went this morning to buy a new suit. I and a million other idiots.

There’s a reason why I didn’t want to hand-wash my bath mat again. I somehow didn’t think of it when I tried that today and found out (again) there is no way to dry a wet 4-kilo lump of blue fuzz on a heater.

There’s a reason – or well, there better should be – when I set my alarm to go off real early. I simply ignored it when I played Fallout 3 til 4 in the morning.

And thinking about all that, there might be a reason why I should better stop blogging and go to bed right now. I mean, after all, I might have forgotten, so why risk anything.

Last Christmas

Jarod | December 22, 2008

… I gave you my heart, but the very next day, you gave it away … err … or not. Last year, I wrote

On Friday, we had our company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun, and I was amongst the last people leaving. To bad it was darn loud again and my voice was scarcely audible the next day after all the screaming. My colleagues need some tequila training, and I’m also quite out of shape.

Yes, well, I could write virtually the same today. It was a much bigger Christmas party; not only has the whole company grown considerably, for this year’s event we also joined forces with the second branch in Düsseldorf. We had a (pretty good) live band and more than 230 people rockin’. I left much earlier and there was no tequila, however still enough to sleep through most of Saturday.

I’ve been trying to wrap up Fallout 3 but it simply doesn’t let me, it’s sooo huge … I have barely touched COD5 multiplayer yet.

I’ve tried to sell my old graphics card on eBay, and I thought I’ve had, but now the guy just doesn’t pay. He’s promised me twice, but nothing. Now, why do you do something like that? I’ll have to report him and set up a new auction, but after Christmas I won’t get a similarly good price. And I wanted to never use eBay again, I must be stupid.

I need one more present, and I originally wanted to go today (turns out I’m horribly lazy, what a surprise). Now I have to go tomorrow, in the early MORNING, as soon as they open, to not go crazy. I’ll be amongst those other men who go last-minute shopping. I feel ashamed and proud at the same time.

Oh, and my Sis passed her final exam! Congrats, if you read this! Hooray! Huzzah! No page 137, but hey, done is done! Well done indeed!

See you, and have some nice holidays, y’all!

Iron, Old Men, Clayton, Vantage, Blood, Juno

Jarod | December 14, 2008

Iron Man is pretty okay I guess, yeah, but Robert Downey Jr. is better.

No Country For Old Men lives up to the title, it shows that Tommy Lee Jones can still play some shit nonetheless, and that it does not need a lot of facial expressions to make a crazy serial killer put a seed of real angst in your heart. It also has Woody Harrelson in it, no further questions need to be asked.

Michael Clayton starts slow, picks up speed and finally has a splendid ending, although all in all, it’s pretty much exactly what the genre promises it to be.

Vantage Point wants to be original and extremely clever, eventually it fails as it’s not really original and not clever enough, but it takes you on a fast-paced a fun ride that is more original and more clever than the average political action thriller, clichéd or not.

There Will Be Blood is an authentic piece of art with brilliant acting, maybe too sophisticated for a Saturday night super phun thyme, it’s disturbing to a degree, well, Academy Award material to say the least.

Speaking of authentic, Juno is an extremely funny and engaging teenage high school drama – that is everything but a teenage high school drama – with a lead actress and cast that one cannot not love from second one, with breath-taking on-the-spot dialog, and although the story could do with more story you just don’t want it to stop, if only because of Juno’s voice, oh that voice, or the acting.

Free movies (yay!)

Jarod | December 4, 2008

I’ve been subscribing to a PC games magazine for many years. With all the online reviews and game sites the heat is on for “old school” papers. Now they gave away (desperately?) coupons worth 60€ to subscribers (yeah!) for an online games/DVDs rental service. I make good use of it, I’ve rented this year’s Oscar blockbusters, so I can catch up a little … and fill up my (recently very quiet) movie list a bit. Next four coming up soon.
