So naked
Jarod | July 26, 2008I spent the whole last week offline. Monday night I wanted to log into AoC when I noticed: nothing. No internet. Cut off. I felt so alone. And naked.
No, seriously, if you can’t do your everyday things at work (or when you’re not allowed to), you run into trouble after a few days. It’s not because I couldn’t read my webcomics, or news. But when you rely on online banking, and when you run community sites, a few days are enough to make you nervous.
I had to use my mobile to call the expensive hotline, as my phone was down, too. And that’s extra-expensive. On Monday, they said they’d have a technician call me. But nothing happened, and when I called again on Tuesday, they said they “lost” my fault report. On Wednesday, the technician called, on Thursday, I spent half the day at home waiting for him. Of course I couldn’t work effectively while waiting, offline. That’s never helpful when you have to run a team.
The technician checked the signal and found out the whole house was offline. And I was the first (and only one) to complain. That’s the strange part. Anyways, he told me they might need to dig up the road to find the problem. Took them two more days, as you can see.
But they even called me, on my now-working phone. Nice. And I was just getting used to being offline. I watched more TV (bad idea), read more books (good idea) and talked and talked with my colleagues at work before going home (very good idea). But I would have done the latter anyway.
The week started out bad, but it got better and better, as every day I could talk to a person I’ve grown quite fond of. Ever since … well, since a long time ago, I feel alive and well, and like myself again. It’s a good feeling.
