The Cake Is A Lie

Jarod | November 3, 2007

Yes, I bought the Orange Box and now I own Half-Life 2 twice. While that sucks, I bought the box because of Portal and Team Fortress 2. Portal is really great, I can hardly recommend it enough. I beat it in four hours, so yes, it’s short, but it’s still worth it. I didn’t buy HL2: Episode One when it came out, so I have a fun time with that one, too. I haven’t even started Team Fortress.

And it runs perfectly smooth on my old PC. Yes, I finally ordered a new one. It looks like it’s gonna be a while before all the parts become available – you gotta love it, eh. Anyway I ordered a brand-new GeForce 8800 GT with it. You just can’t beat the bang/buck ratio at the moment. And it will enable me to play Crysis when it comes out later this month. Yes it’s a golden November for gamers. I still don’t understand why all studios release their top titles at once and then nothing for the next 6 months, but that’s how it always was.

Hope the 8800gt turns up, you cant find anyone with stock yet here in the UK. After reading the reviews I am soooo glad I didn’t get a 8800 GTS recently.
It will be interesting to see how ATI responds as there recently released 2900 pro (which you also cant find anywhere) seemed to be a good competitor for the GTS.

You’re right, ATI said they will respond with their new 3800 (or whatever the name will be) later this month, but rumors are that it – again – can’t compete with the 8800 GT. Well, we’ll see. Ah and Nvidia is going to release a new version of the GTS which is supposed to be faster than the GT, but quite more expensive … again, only rumors so far. Will they ever come up with a consistent, reliable naming system?

Apparently nVidia listed a 512mb GTS on their site which has since been removed. Much speculation that is is a g92 based GTS which will supercede the current 320 and 640 GTS (no point keeping them when the 8800gt outperforms them for a cheaper price).
Exciting times in the graphics world ! I feel an upgrade coming on :)
