Battleground Europe free trial

Jarod | January 30, 2006

As of last friday, the MMO WW2 shooter Battleground Europe started a 14-day trial for all interested players. The trial period is free and is meant – of course – to make you buy the full version later. I’ve yet to try it, and despite being sick of WW2 games having this kind of dynamic battlefield surely is a challenge for the designers – I’d like to find out how they perform.

Volume one in The Virtual Battlefield Series, Battleground Europe features the armies, vehicles, weapons and equipment found on the battlefields of Western Europe 1939-1942.

I tried it out, and it was sooooooooo boring. The order was to get to a spot on other side of a big lake, which forced me to walk for more than 20 minutes.

Maybe it was to early, and in the evening you get some kind of transport by other players using ships.

Also the graphics suck, but my computer isnt that up-to-date (AMD 2400+, Radeon 9600 pro, 1 G RAM).

Think i wont log in again. :(

Yeah the graphics are not exactly up-to-date, I’ve seen the screenshots, can’t be considering the age of the engine and the size of the ‘map’. I really wonder how the fighting should go in such a large area. Well it’s monday and still early. I’ll try it when I get home.

I’ll skip this one. I find games that are based around real world events of such magnitude as wars, were so much loss of life occurred, distasteful.

    Fair enough, Stat.

Well, graphics really ARE sub standard, at least on the ground. In the air it’s not as bad and actually fun … to some extend. First of all KYNS is right, you have to walk/fly/drive very, very far to get somewhere. Maybe it’s faster if you join a squad? Well it’s also very ‘realistic’, simulation like. Means flying is difficult: blackouts, unstable, jumpy 30ies planes, engine torque … nothing for a fast and simple shootout.

I don’t I’ll be playing it, too. Butt-ugly. *shiver* Soz.
